Android Market A Big Hit Says Google

Yesterday, a Google executive spoke about the Android Market saying that the average G1 user has downloaded 14 applications of the now 200 available. Eric Chu, group marketing manager for the Android Mobile Platform, went on to say that the Android Marketplace is the "killer app" of the platform. Developers will be able to start charging for apps in the first quarter of 2009. The revenue will break 70/30. Of the 30 percent, Google will retain a small portion to cover credit card transaction costs and the remainder goes to the carrier. Perhaps this is what Ballmer was saying when he questioned the revenue model for Android.

Android Firmware Update RC29 Delayed Or Put On Hold?

Shortly after the release of the T-Mobile G1, some users were receiving Android firmware update RC28. Google put the breaks on the release of RC28, so they could include a security flaw that was uncovered. Firmware update RC29 corrected the flaw and some users had started to receive the OTA update last week. Some folks have yet to receive either RC28 or RC29, leaving them with RC19 which shipped. Is there is delay with RC29 or is Google working on yet another update?

Comparing G1 RC 19, RC28 and RC29 Firmware

Right now, there are G1 users with the following firmware builds: RC 19, RC28 and RC29. So, which is which? RC19 appears to be the original build that shipped with the T-Mobile G1. Google updated to RC28 and had started to deliver OTA updates to a few early adopters.

It appears that Google put the breaks on the release of RC28 in order to fix the security flaw we talked abut a few days back. The resulting firmware is RC29 and some G1 owners have started to receive that update. T-Mobile reportedly  hopes to have everyone on RC9 by November 12th. What version are you running? Android RC29 Software Update Hits T-Mobile G1

The first OTA (over the air) update RC29 has started to find it's way to the T-Mobile G1. Some users have reported receiving the OTA update this morning. The update process will reboot the G1 a few times.
