In today's Android App Spotlight, we take a look at Scoreboard. This application was developed by Google for Android, so as you'd imagine it works great. Scoreboard is not simply a place to find score updates, but you'll also find schedules. Not only do you get live scoring, but it also allow you to go back. Curious as to who won the Eagles vs Browns on Monday Night Football? Simply select NFL and scrollback to get the scores. There are even more features for the sports obsessed.

A carryover from other Google apps is favorites. You can select your favorite sports team and Google will provide live update notifications. I enjoy hockey and I'm following the Islanders in their pursuit of the number one overall pick in next year's draft. Scoreboard enables me to receive notifications at the start or end of game, every period or every goal. Thankfully, I added Scoreboard after Pittsburgh outscored the Isles 9-2 last week.

Yesterday, a Google executive spoke about the Android Market saying that the average G1 user has downloaded 14 applications of the now 200 available. Eric Chu, group marketing manager for the Android Mobile Platform, went on to say that the Android Marketplace is the "killer app" of the platform. Developers will be able to start charging for apps in the first quarter of 2009. The revenue will break 70/30. Of the 30 percent, Google will retain a small portion to cover credit card transaction costs and the remainder goes to the carrier. Perhaps this is what Ballmer was saying when he questioned the revenue model for Android.

It's been just over a week since the T-Mobile G1 has been launched and there is already data on what G1 owners are downloading from the Android Market. At launch, the Android Market had 62 apps. Topping the list of downloads and making the list of the most popular apps were:

Twidroid is now available in the Android Market and represents the first Twitter app for the G1.

Electronic Arts has confirmed they will be producing games for the Android platform. The game developer expects Tetris for Android to be the first release followed up by Bejeweled and Monopoly.

"Android is another exciting new platform to offer customers great games with enhancements like touch and tilt capabilities," and while we weren't given specifics outside of the aforesaid titles, more games are definitely "in development," said Adam Sussman, Vice President for EA Mobile. EA has been very active in development of iPhone games and now Android users will be able to enjoy some of their popular titles.

Sure we've seen our share of splashy promotional videos, but a new T-Mobile G1 emulator allows you to experience Android on the new G1 phone. Head on over to T-Mobile and you can use the emulator to see how Android works.

HTC has released their video preview of the G1 in action. In what appears to be advertising theme behind the G1, they call the G1 "funnerer, smarterer, connecteder".
