Yet another manufacturer is on board for a 2009 release of an Android-powered phone. We just heard about Samsung's Android release for Sprint and now it appears GPS giant Garmin is expected to release a phone in late 2009. Garmin has also reiterated their promise to bring the Garmin Nuvifone to market in 09'.

Samsung will release their Android-based gPhone in the second quarter of next year on Sprint Wireless and possibly T-Mobile. The company has added 30 experts in Linux and Java bringing the total to over 80 developers working on this project. Sprint wants the gPhone added to their lineup and fast.

In today's Android App Spotlight, we take a look at Scoreboard. This application was developed by Google for Android, so as you'd imagine it works great. Scoreboard is not simply a place to find score updates, but you'll also find schedules. Not only do you get live scoring, but it also allow you to go back. Curious as to who won the Eagles vs Browns on Monday Night Football? Simply select NFL and scrollback to get the scores. There are even more features for the sports obsessed.

A carryover from other Google apps is favorites. You can select your favorite sports team and Google will provide live update notifications. I enjoy hockey and I'm following the Islanders in their pursuit of the number one overall pick in next year's draft. Scoreboard enables me to receive notifications at the start or end of game, every period or every goal. Thankfully, I added Scoreboard after Pittsburgh outscored the Isles 9-2 last week.

Tired of the G1 being the only shipping device than can run Android?  Check out this video of some enterprising member of XDA Developers has been able to get Android running on an HTC Touch. He's also include directions on how to use the hack. Best yet, it creates a dual boot system allowing you to use Touch Flo or Android based on your preference.

Rich Miner, VP of mobile technology at Google, is scheduled to deliver the keynote at Sprint's mobile developer's conference on December 12th. This comes just weeks after Sprint CEO Dan Hesse was quoted as saying Android was "not yet good enough". Perhaps we'll find out on December 12th if things have changed. Anyone for a Sprint G2 running Android?
